Company History

Tanykina dairy limited is a fully farmer-owned dairy company operating in the rich agricultural highlands of the North Rift. The company was registered in 2003 and began operations in july 2005. At the offset the TDL plant was collecting 526 litres of milk per day in 2005. The company also rented it's premises in Kipkaren Salient.

 

Current Status

TDL currently collects and markets approximately 30 000 litres of milk per day. As of 2010, the company had an annual earning of slightly over 292 million. TDL has over 6000 shareholders, all of whom are dairy farmers and each receives an average monthly payment of KES 4000.

In November 2011, the shareholders celebrated the commissioning of a newly constructed farmer-owned, state-of-the-art milk chilling plant & company headquarters in Kipkaren Salient at a colorful ceremony attended by several local & international dignitaries. Present were Hon. Abdi Kuti, Minister, Ministry of Livestock Development, Hon. William Ruto, Eldoret North MP & former agriculture minister, Hon. David Koech, the area MP, among others.

In the past few months TDL has reported increased volumes of bulked milk. TDL has also adopted quality control measures that ensure most, if not all, of the milk collected has a low bacteria count. These measures include use of aluminium cans for milk delivery & prompt supply of milk to chilling plants for quick chilling.

Tanykina Dairy Plant is engaged in provision of Artificial Insemination (AI) and veterinary extension services, financial services, a health care scheme for shareholders, collection, bulking, and marketing of milk for & to share holders.
